3- Do not allow yourself and your kid to eat while watching TV. Studies have shown that you will eat more while watching TV.
4- Talk to your kid about food and what makes it healthy and why we should consume healthy food.
5- TV and computer games play important part in helping kids gaining weight. To prevent your kid from spending too much time on TV or games you need to introduce another activity to him/her, just asking your kid not to play games won't work.
6- Teach your kid to stop when he /she is full. Do not force your kid to clear his plate if the portion is large.
7- Do not stack processed snacks at home, instead have always basket of fruits and teach your kid to eat fruit when they feel hungry before meal. I realized my kids started eating fruits when I stopped providing them with snacks. However you can shop for healthy snacks such as protein bars.
8- Expose your kid to different type of food and different way of preparation. My daughter does not like to eat meat, but I discovered that it was not the meat; it is how the meat is prepared. When I prepared meat ball for her she had no problem eating them.
9- Make vegetables part of every meal. You can start with broccoli either steamed or baked with some olive oil. As they show interest in vegetables introduce more to them.
10- Make food exciting for them by asking your kid to participate in food preparation. Putting meat ball on a wooden stick might be interesting to them then just having them on the plate.
Healthy diet is one part of the process. Getting your kid involved in sport is another part. You can start with cycling most kids like cycling another sport which might excite your kid is Rollerblade.
My most important tip is never introduce soft drinks to your kids, let them know water and fresh fruit juice is better for their health, you can teach them how to prepare banana milk shake and I'm sure they will like it.
